Once in a lifetime, you will exchange
your boots for sparks, and flare
into Orion which you said was
your boots for sparks, and flare
into Orion which you said was
really you, and you gunned it
like a false start, leaving
your belt unbuckled
which was a blast, your bow
was an empty bottle slung
from the hip, which hit the ground
and the glass became shards
which is like stars for people who
never look up, which means they wont
see you up there dancing highway
to the danger zone or the three dots
you left in your wake, twinkling into
exhaustion or wasting away in
the overwhelming dark, which is
love in a dead language
dVerse: Once in a Lifetime
I love how this keeps transforming itself, boots into sparks, glass into stars, the highway into Orion, until everything becomes part of that enormous dark. The last line is especially haunting. “Love in a dead language” is a hell of an ending. Much Love ! 🧡
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cara about the poem transforming itself and the haunting ending. The title resonated with me, having just passed a milepost in my life, and I love the three-word movement: sparks/flare/blast and the astrological references.
ReplyDeleteI look up, and I see someone gone but never to be forgotten. Your perm takes me on a journey, spangled with stars. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you connected it to the stars
ReplyDeletewhich hit the ground

to the danger zone or the three dots
you left in your wake, ....this is so beautiful!!
